16 June 2012 – 7e Adi Day – Trash for Treasure

We had a wonderful, fun charity event in Cape Town on Youth Day (16th June 2012). Many friends and supporters had cleared out their cupboards and wardrobes of unwanted items: clothes, pots ‘n pans, flower vases, electrical appliances – even TV sets and a hifi set! They brought these to our tables at Irene’s school (Good Hope Seminary in Hope Street, Gardens) where some needy people had gathered to rummage and choose whatever they needed. There was a lot of positive energy as one load came and went – and another load came and went again! It was like Christmas in the middle of June, and it was lovely to see the delight in people’s faces when they found a little “treasure”. In the end, we only had four black bags of mainly clothing left, which Irene will take to Cafda for re-distribution to needy people on the Cape Flats. And, yes, Adi was there, too, enjoying every moment…

17 & 22 March 2012 – 6e Adi Day – Blood drive

Thanks to the eight people who turned up in Cape Town Saturday morning 17th March to donate blood, or to show their support for blood donation, in celebration of Adi’s life. And some of us were either hung over, very tired or squeamish – but we still made it! Yay!

Stef, Joris and Timmy, three very brave guys from Belgium went on 22th March to the blood centre in their neighborhood. Not knowing what to expect and being scared by everybody saying you will feel bad afterwards, it actually went very good and quick, at least nobody fainted ;-).
Pulled over by the idea launched by Adi-Day, taking it as a reason to actually take the effort to donate blood, we all were convinced: why didn’t we did this before? So, count us in for some more donations in the future.
We hope these pictures will also convince you to donate some blood. Gather some friends and go to the nearest blood centre and safe a life!

20 November 2011 -1e Adi Day in Belgium – Plant a tree

On Sunday 20th November, Timmy and his family helped to plant 20.000 new trees in Belgium. The event was organised by a Belgium nature organisation and sponsored by a big cookie-company. You had to save the special codes on all the cookie boxes. With 6 codes collected you saved 1 tree. We saved 24 trees in total and they all where marked with a nice ADI-TREE label. The area where we planted the trees is going to be a new public forest.

9 Oktober 2011 – 5e Adi Day – Gun Running for school shoes

On Friday 18th November, on the first anniversary, Adi’s friends and family took more than 70 pairs of school shoes to the Leliebloem Children’s Home in Athlone. The money (more than R8,000) had been raised by peopel walkign in the Gun Run on 9 October. Thanks, Courtney and the Bobs for Good Foundation, for organising all of this!

20 August 2011 – 4e Adi Day – Tree Plant Event

The world needs more trees! So we did a major call-up to plant as many trees as possible on a place where it is allowed and they can grow on a sustainable way.

In South-Africa these trees where planted by us:

13 Trees at Backsberg Wine Estate
4 Trees at Good Hope Seminary High School
1 Tree planted in Bacchos Road, Tableview

In Belgium, Timmy set up a little special African tree in his house and is saving for more (see 1e ADI DAY in Belgium).

25 June 2011 – 3e Adi Day – Beenies for teenies

The MOST ENORMOUS thank you to every one who made this ADI DAY the fantastic success that it was! 166 Beanies were created….. we are blown away and overwhelmed by your enthusiasm and generosity!

23 March 2011 – 2e Adi Day – Food wanted!

In March we collected foodstuffs and toiletries for Heaven’s Shelter House in Mitchells Plain. This shelter currently cares for 12 women and 27 children who have been the victims of abuse. It survives only on donations. If you would like to help them out, contact Hilda de Beer at New Kidz On The Block. Big thanks to all who so generously donated!

23 January 2011 – 1e Adi Day – Collecting litter on the beach!

In January we spent a windy day out in Melkbos picking up litter off the beach. We filled 20 big black bags! The afternoon was spent eating pizza and reminiscing on the grass outside Blue Peter. A great start for the Adi Ansems Foundation!
