In loving memory … 3 years later

3 Years later we still can feel the sadness about your loss,
but found our way to remember you…

Leaving some Adi-stones for remembering a Sunny Girl…
You will find them on the Kesselberg at the sandpit or in the field,
are you coming to collect them?

Remembering you always…
Lots of love

Adi in yoga class on National Women’s Day

Adi was celebrated at a yoga class on National Women’s Day

The 9th August is a public holiday in South Africa, when the contribution of women to the country is celebrated. And what better way to celebrate our special woman, Adi, than through a yoga class in the beautiful Green Point Park in Cape Town! Thank you, Kathy, for your beautiful initiative and for getting us all to breathe deeply again, and to stretch those muscles!

The yoga class raised about R400 as a donation towards Kathy’s favourite charity, Seva Unite, which distributes clothing to the underprivileged in Khayelitsha.

Thank you to the friends who came to support – including our lovely male friend Glenn, who didn’t feel threatened by all the woman things. The supporters ranged in age from 61 years old (no names mentioned) to a two month old little lady, Louise’s daughter, Erin. And thank you, Adi, for organising wonderful, fine weather on this winter’s day. You are always there.

A Permanent Memorial Garden for Adi

On Sunday, 18th November 2012, Adi’s family and friends gathered in the garden area of the Good Hope Seminary High School in Cape Town, where Irene lives, to mark two years since Adi left us.  We saw the nice, new brass plaque that has been attached to the school wall, which will always tell people about her; and we checked up on the trees that we planted a year ago. They are growing so well!  We also painted some small stones, which Irene will take with her and leave in special places in Turkey and Spain in December.

It was lovely to get together and share again.
Thank you, to all the friends who care!

Adi at the Table Mountain Challenge Run, 15 Sept 2012

Dunya ran a major race on the 15th September 2012 – the Table Mountain Challenge, a trial run of 36 kilometres up and down and all around the mountain. Dunya performed exceptionally well, finishing in under six hours in the top ten women.  But she was not alone.  She ran with friend Glenn Edwards, and at the halfway mark Mom Irene was there with refreshments – and Adi was also there.

The first photo shows Glenn Edwards, friend Nicky Obree (who ran the first leg) and Dunya at the halfway mark at Constantia Neck; the second photo shows part of the support team, Tara de Jongh and Nashee, who helped Irene to set up things. The third photo shows Dunya coming in to the finish line.

‘Tweede waterval’ Guardian

Meet up the guardian of ‘de tweede waterval’.

In Jonkershoek near Stellenbosch (South-Africa), there is a nice little waterfall they call ‘de tweede waterval’. After keeping the ashes of Adi’s body close to them for a while, Dunya and Irene decided to spread them out on this nice location. On Monday 26 December Irene and Timmy visited the place again. You only arrive at the bottem waterfall after walking through the stream for a couple of meters between the rocks. Finally arriving, we found a little frog sitting bravely on a staple of rocks at the the end of the pool. While having a lunch break, taking some pictures and setting up some Adi-stones, the frog never moved from his place. Seemly he knew who we where, but carefully kept an eye on us, garding the waterfall.

Adi Stones

In December 2011, Irene (mom from Adi) asked me (Timmy) if I would join to do something special. Curious as I was, I followed her to her room where she showed me a couple of nicely shaped rocks and gave me some paint and a brush. Before I realized it myself I was involved of making Adi-Stones. The plan was simple. Search some nice stones, color them on your way and leave them on a place you know Adi once was or a place you would like to take her. Surprised by this lovely idea I started to get the best artist out of me and created some rocks.
I once tried to search back a stone Irene left a couple of hours before near the first cottage on the whale trail in a dried out little stream. I couldn’t find the colored stone any more. Finding this kind a strange I reported my experience to Irene. Surprisingly she says that it’s perfectly ok. It means Adi already found the stone and picked it up.

Adi was some kind of weird gatherer (she even shipped some empty Belgium beer bottles to South-Africa). I wonder how big her collection of stones already is?
If you ever feel like, Adi would love to find yet another beautiful stone…

Whale Trail december 2011

Adi always was a in for some new kind of hike. When she heard about the whale trail in Nature reserve ‘De Hoop’ she immediately started to figure out the details. Seemed that this 5day hike is quite popular and has to be booked one year in front and only for groups with 6 or 12 people. Without having such a group, she still decided to make a reservation and started to ask people to join and keep the date free: from Friday 16th to Wednesday 21 December 2011, on that moment more than a year ahead.

Despite the tragical los of Adi, her sister Dunya kept the reservation alive and still found 12 people to join up and depart for the whale trail. Starting with the George girls (Adi, Dunya, Kathy, Hayley, Angi, Irene) we attached all partners (Timmy, Larry, Darol, Chris, Carroll) and filled up the numbers with good company (Vince, Marion).

With a nice balance between the beautiful landscapes, nice located and well accommodated cottages, enough free time and a group in harmony it was a really beautiful little adventure. Mostly advisable for everybody who loves being in the wide open nature.

Thanks Adi, for booking us this trip!
